ABOUT US
Hey Radhe Karunamayi
Public Charitable Trust
Our mission to provide shelter, care and support to the elderly devotees in Vrindavan during their last year of life. Our service mission is inspired by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s advise of: “Jive Doya, Namey Ruchi, Vaishnav Sevan” – meaning, ‘Kindness to all Souls, Chanting of God’s name, and Service to devotees’.
In Vrindavan, we reach out to the most needy ‘destitute elderly and single women (and widows)’ who are abandoned and live alone without any social support. These destitute and elderly women (we call the ‘Matas’- meaning mothers) are spending their last year of life in utmost difficult situations; without any place to live, physically frail and disabled, lonely and many of them bedridden without anybody to take care of them. Though there are many institutions in Vrindavan, we are bridging the gap of the grate need for shelter and care for these ‘Matas’ and taking care of them during their last years along with palliative and bed-side medical care.
The trust has been providing shelter to such homeless and destitute elderly in a care-home setting, provides nutritious meals, personal and bedside care, periodic medical examination and treatment. Most of the elderly improve their physical condition and are able to soon live an active life because of these facilities and are able to devote much of their time in devotional activities. The regular medical attention and treatment along with provision of nutritious meals, yoga and exercises to maintain an active life style to help the resident ‘matas’ (collective noun used for all elderly women) help them maintain optimum health, deal with medical conditions and thereby improve wellbeing.
We follow the principles of Vaishnav devotee and conduct daily Harinam Sankirtan, Thakur Seva, Chanting, Discourses and other devotional practices. These spiritual practices and devotional living help them remain “Joyful”. This furthers their aspiration of devotional practices (Bhajan) in Holy Vrindavan.
At present in three care-homes more than 130 elderly are provided residential care, food, shelter, medical and bed-side care with love and compassion. In addition, another 70 elderly, living in our neighborhood are provided home care and support.

About the Founder
Shyama Dasi (Didi), Founder and Managing Trustee, the founder and the inspiration behind the trust is a Vaishnava Devotee, living in Vrindavan for more than 23 years. In addition to her devotional practices, Shyama Didi has experience of managing Ashram seva for the elderly, has provided employment and livelihood to a group of 40 young and needy women enabling these poor home-makers to meet their economic needs has served the needy in several ways.
Shyama Didi was deeply moved by the inhuman and poor living conditions of a large number of elderly and destitute women in Vrindavan. These elderly women come to Vrindavan to spend their last years in devotion to Radha Rani but do not get any support during their last years of life. Shyama Didi has envisioned to dedicate the trust services to those needy and destitute elderly women, who are physically weak, frail and are in of need of shelter and care, especially for those needing special palliative care for the terminally ill and bed-ridden. She ensures that these services are provided in a spiritually uplifting environment that is conducive for their devotional, uplifted and inspired living.
